At Aurora Sports Officials (ASO), our story began in 1988 when two college friends, Gerald Letofsky and Christopher Tanko, united by their passion for sports, set out to revolutionize the world of sports officiating. Chris, now resting in peace, and Jerry, both distinguished graduates with strong backgrounds in math and computer science from Regis College, embarked on a journey to apply cutting-edge technology to an age-old industry.
Fuelled by their love for sports and armed with a vision to provide the highest quality of service, ASO quickly became a trailblazer in the sports officiating business. Their first creation, the Team Time Sports Line, marked the beginning of a series of groundbreaking Computer Telephony Applications that would transform the way officials were assigned to games. Pioneering the use of pagers for seamless communication with officials, ASO soon revolutionized payroll and trust accounting reports using fax technology.
As the internet exploded, ASO embraced the digital era and became the first to develop a website, further cementing their position as pioneers in the field. Throughout the years, our commitment to innovation has been unwavering, as we continue to leverage emerging technologies to enhance the sports officiating experience.
Melissa Letofsky, joining ASO full-time in 1992, brought her expertise and passion to the table, becoming a vital part of the team and earning her place as a part owner. Specializing in client relations and serving as a liaison between athletic offices and officials, Melissa also excels as the assignor for several sports, including soccer, volleyball, and lacrosse.
Over three decades, ASO has grown exponentially, now serving as the leading Sports Officials Organization in Colorado. Our dedication to consistency and performance has earned us a reputation for providing safe and fair quality sports officiating to our clients for over 35 years. With a growing portfolio of services, including assigning, management, data processing, and payroll solutions, we have become the go-to partner for all sports officiating needs.
At ASO, we understand that our success is intrinsically tied to the growth and development of our officials. Rooted in the principle of “Doing the Little Things,” we are committed to nurturing their personal and professional growth. We take on the roles of trainers, evaluators, assignors, and mentors, fostering a sense of family and belonging among our officials. Embracing diversity, we create an association where every member can be inspired to realize their full potential. We treat each other and game participants with dignity and respect, holding ourselves to the highest standards of integrity and fairness.
Our partnerships are more than just collaborations; they are founded on an ethical bedrock of integrity and trust. Working hand in hand with our partners, we deliver comprehensive benefits packages to both officials and clients, including insurance coverage, financial services, training and development opportunities, entertainment options, and health and wellness initiatives.
Beyond the realm of sports, we see ourselves as an integral part of the community we serve. With a window into the world of Officiating and Athletics in Colorado, we take pride in giving back to our schools and clubs, sponsoring events and fundraisers, supporting youth and family programs and clinics, and encouraging our officials to volunteer and support each other during times of hardship and celebration.
As we look to the future, ASO remains dedicated to expanding our range of services, utilizing data processing and payroll solutions to streamline operations further. Our commitment to the personal and professional growth of our officials will always be at the heart of our mission. We strive to continue being the leading Sports Officials Organization in Colorado, upholding the values of Integrity, Responsibility, and Excellence that have guided us on this incredible journey.
